	Description
	Aciphex [Rabeprazole] inhibits gastric acid secretion and other inactive ingredients. Aciphex Rabeprazole is an antiulcer drug in the group of proton pump inhibitors. Aciphex [Rabeprazole] is used for the treatment of number of conditions within the esophagus stomach and intestines. The inner membrane of organs like stomach esophagus and intestine is protected by a layer called mucus. The enzymes present on wall of the stomach secrets acid which damage the mucus and affects the membrane walls causing ulcers. Aciphex [Rabeprazole] stops the acid production sites in the stomch thus reducing the amount of acid in the stomach and reduces heartburn and Gastroesophageal reflux disease GERD symptoms go away which occurs by mucosal damage produced by the abnormal reflux in esophagus heal the damage done to esophagus and gives time to heal the intestine and stomach. Aciphex [Rabeprazole] is used for the treatment of gastric ulcer and peptic ulcer disease maintenance of healing of erosive or ulcerative GERD healing of erosive and ulcerative GERD treatment of symptomatic GERD healing of duodenal ulcers treatment of pathological hypersecretory conditions and helicobacter pylori eradication to reduce risk of duodenal ulcer recurrence.


	How to use
	The healthcare provider or the physician decides the dosage of Aciphex [Rabeprazole] medication according to the severity and the type of disorder. For the treatment of symptoms of Gastroesophageal reflux disease GERD the recommended dose of Aciphex is 20mg once daily for 4 weeks. If symptoms do not improve then the physician can recommend for another 4 weeks. The recommended dose of Aciphex for the treatment of healing of erosive esophagitis is 20mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. After the healing dosage of 20mg once daily should be continued for the maintenance of erosive esophagitis. The recommended Aciphex dosage for healing of duodenal ulcers is 20mg once daily after the morning meal for 4-8 weeks. If the ulcer is not healed then another dosage for 8 weeks can be recommended. Patients with excessive production of acid are recommended with 60mg of Aciphex daily. If the result is ineffective then the healthcare provider can increase the dosage or decrease the dosage if side effects occur.


	Side Effects
	Aciphex [Rabeprazole] side effects may occur it will be minor or can be treated by the patient own self or the healthcare provider. The most common possible side effects of Aciphex are allergic reaction headache tiredness migraine hypertension heart attack fainting diarrhea tachycardia chest pain indigestion nausea vomiting burping dry mouth flatulence anorexia constipation gall stone anemia weight gain dehydration insomnia dizziness depression anxiety abnormal vision tinnitus glaucoma bladder infection. Other side effects reported are hepatitis swelling of face amnesia blood diarrhea agitation herpes zoster blood in urine eye pain deafness double vision and dry skin. Sexual disorder such as erectile dysfunction is also reported due to Aciphex medication.


	Drug Interaction
	If Aciphex [Rabeprazole] and Warfarin are taken concurrently the body may metabolize them differently which is not intended. There can be an increase in International Normalized Ratio INR and prothrombin time in patients which may lead to abnormal bleeding and even death. Ketoconazole needs stomach acid to get absorbed properly in the body. On the other hand Aciphex Rabeprazole reduces stomach acid. So when both are taken together then the action of other drug may differ. If Aciphex Rabeprazole and Digoxin are administered concurrently the body may metabolize them differently which is not intended because Aciphex increases the amount of digoxin that is absorbed in blood. The healthcare provider should be informed if the patient is taking digoxin. The physician should be informed about the drug-taking of the patient to guard the adverse effects from drug interactions.


	Uses
	Aciphex [Rabeprazole] is used for the treatment of gastric ulcer and peptic ulcer disease maintenance of healing of erosive or ulcerative GERD healing of erosive and ulcerative GERD treatment of symptomatic GERD healing of duodenal ulcers treatment of pathological hypersecretory conditions and helicobacter pylori eradication to reduce risk of duodenal ulcer recurrence.


	Storage
	Aciphex [Rabeprazole] should be stored at a temperature of 25°C 77°F. Brief storage at a room temperature between 15°-30°C 59°-86°F is permissible. Keep away from heat and moisture.


	Precaution
	Inform the doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to rabeprazole lansoprazole Prevacid omeprazole Prilosec pantoprazole Protonix or any other medications. tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications vitamins nutritional supplements and herbal products you are taking.
