	Description
	Advair Diskus [Fluticasone & Salmeterol] is a medicine used for the treatment of asthma. It contains a combination an inhaled corticosteroid medicine fluticasone propionate and a long-acting beta2-agonist medicine salmeterol xinafoate. They are available in three forms - ADVAIR DISKUS 100/50 ADVAIR DISKUS 250/50 and ADVAIR DISKUS 500/50. In all the three forms ‘50’ refers to the strength of salmeterol which is constant in all the forms while the strength of fluticasone propionate which is a corticosteroid varies from ‘100’ to ‘500’ where 100 is the weakest and 500 is the strongest. This is a drug which is used for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Advair Diskus is the best medicine used for treating asthma. Advair Diskus fails to help you in relieving sudden symptoms. You should always use a short acting beta2 agonist medicine to relieve you off your sudden symptoms. You should always regularly consume Advair Diskus and avoid its stoppage on your own without the advice of the physician else your symptoms may worsen. Advair Diskus is usually advised if your physician understands that your asthma is not controlled by a single asthma controller medicine and it does require another asthma controller medicine. Advair Diskus is used for a long term use and is used to control the symptoms of asthma and to prevent symptoms like wheezing. The medication Advair Diskus is contraindicated in few conditions. They are Primary treatment of status asthmaticus or in cases of acute episodes of asthma or COPD where intensive measures are required or in cases where there is severe hypersensitivity to milk proteins.


	How to use
	Advair Diskus [Fluticasone & Salmeterol] is to be consumed daily two times through the oral route only. It is to be inhaled orally. It is advisable that the patient rinses his/her mouth with water without swallowing after inhalation. Frequent number of inhalations or higher number of inhalation is not recommended as few patients probably experience harmful effects with higher doses of salmeterol. Additional long-acting beta2-agonists should not be used by patients using Advair Diskus.


	Side Effects
	Commonly experienced side effects are upper respiratory tract infections irritation of throat infections of ear nose and throat epistaxis [bleeding through nose] pharyngitis [infection of throat sinusitis headaches gastrointestinal discomfort pain in stomach nausea vomiting cadidiasis of the mouth or throat fever chest symptoms etc.


	Drug Interaction
	Tricyclic antidepressants amitriptyline [e.g. Elavil] amoxapine [e.g. Asendin] clomipramine [e.g. Anafranil] desipramine [e.g. Norpramin] doxepin [e.g. Sinequan] imipramine [e.g. Tofranil] nortriptyline [e.g. Pamelor] protriptyline [e.g. Vivactil] trimipramine [e.g. Surmontil] or brbr


	Over Dose
	If overdose is suspected contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include seizures chest pain unusually fast/irregular heartbeat severe muscle weakness muscle cramping and fainting.


	Missed Dose
	CONTINUE TO USE THIS MEDICINE even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do NOT use 2 doses at once


	Uses
	Advair Diskus [Fluticasone & Salmeterol] is indicated as a maintenance treatment in children and adults suffering with asthma. It is also indicated in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease COPD associated with chronic bronchitis. In case a child requires frequent use of asthma control medicines or is experiencing frequent asthma symptoms or asthma attacks then he may require the need of Advair.


	Storage
	It is to be stored at room temperature between 68° to 77° F 20° to 25° C and in a dry place far from heat and sunlight.


	Precaution
	NOT indicated to alleviate acute bronchospasm. Not used in patients whose asthma can be successfully controlled by inhaled corticosteroids. ADVAIR is not used with long-acting beta2-agonists. Inform your physician if you suffer from heart complaints high blood pressure seizures diabetes liver complaints etc.
