Caduet [Amlodipine and Atorvastatin]is a fixed dose combination drug containing Amlodipine a calcium channel blocker and Atorvastatin. Amlodipine inhibits the rate at which the calcium moves into heart and blood vessels walls resulting in relaxation of blood vessels allowing better blood flow and lowering down blood pressure making easier for heart to pump the blood. On the other hand Atorvastatin which belongs to a class of medication called statin blocks a particular enzyme HMG-CoA reductase which controls the rate of production of cholesterol in the body. Atorvastatin increases the ability of the liver to collect bad cholesterol and get rid of it increases good cholesterol and decreases triglycerides. Caduet [Amlodipine and Atorvastatin] is an oral medication available in a form of tablets of various strengths of Amlodipine and Atorvastatin such as 2.5mg of Amlodipine/10mg Atorvastatin 2.5mg/ 20mg 2.5mg/40mg 5mg/10mg 5mg/20mg 5mg/40mg 5mg/80mg 10mg/10mg 10mg/20mg 10mg/40mg and 10mg/80mg. These Caduet tablets are packaged in a bottle of 30s.


	How to use
	Dosage of Caduet [Amlodipine and Atorvastatin] depends on the need of the patient and its tolerance for individual components of the Caduet tablets. Amlodipine: For the treatment of Hypertension the initial recommended dose is 5mg of amlodipine once daily to a maximum of 10mg. The elderly patient or patient with hepatic insufficiency or patient taking other antihypertensive therapy can start with 2.5mg of amlodipine. The recommended duration of the medication is usually more than 7-14 days. For the treatment of Vasospastic or Chronic stable angina the initial recommended dose is 10mg of amlodipine and 5mg for elderly and hepatic insufficient patient. For the treatment of Coronary artery disease the recommended dose is 5-10mg of amlodipine. For the treatment of Hypertension in children between 6-17 years of age the recommended dose is 2.5-5mg of amlodipine. Atorvastatin: Patient should maintain a standard cholesterol lowering diet throughout the medication. For the treatment of Hyperlipidemia or high cholesterol the initial recommended dose is 10-20mg of atorvastatin once daily. For the reduction of bad cholesterol more than 45 the dose can be initiated with 40mg and can extend to 80mg once daily. The lipid level should be analyzed within 2-4 weeks and adjust the dosage accordingly. For the treatment of hyperlipidemia in case of pediatrics between 10-17 years of age the recommended dose is 10mg of atorvastatin to a maximum of 20mg. Dosage adjustment can be done on an interval of 4 weeks or more.


	Side Effects

	Storage
