	Description
	Coreg is composed of an active ingredient known as Carvedilol and other inactive ingredients. Coreg [Carvedilol] is an oral medication available in a form of tablets of different strengths – 3.125mg 6.25mg 12.5mg and 25mg. Coreg [Carvedilol] is a beta blocker as well as alpha blocker too. Coreg [Carvedilol] is used for the treatment of mild to severe congestive heart failure left ventricular dysfunction following myocardial infarction and high blood pressure hypertension.


	How to use
	For high blood pressure hypertension the recommended dose of Coreg [Carvedilol] is 6.25mg twice daily. After 7 to 14 days depending on the blood pressure response or its side effect the dosage can be increased or decreased. Diuretic water pill or another blood pressure medication can be added to it if alone Coreg [Carvedilol] is not sufficient. For congestive heart failure the recommended dose of Coreg [Carvedilol] is 3.125mg twice daily. The dosage can be increased or decreased based on the response to its medication or its side effects. For myocardial infarction the recommended dose of Coreg [Carvedilol] is 6.25mg twice daily. Depending on its tolerability response or its side effects the dosage can be increased or decreased. Coreg [Carvedilol] should be administered with food to slow the rate of absorption and reduce the incidence of orthostatic effects.


	Side Effects
	Based on the medication used for the treatment of congestive heart failure Coreg [Carvedilol] side effects indicated are dizziness nausea fatigue low blood pressure diarrhea high blood sugar hyperglycemia slow heart rate and weight gain. Other common side effects based on the treatment are swelling of arms legs hands and feet shortness of breath vomiting fainting syncope abnormal vision and anemia. Based on the medication used for the treatment of high blood pressure hypertension the Coreg [Carvedilol] side effects reported are slow heart rate bradycardia blood pressure drops while standing either from a lying down or sitting position postural hypotension peripheral edema dizziness insomnia diarrhea thrombocytopenia and hypertriglyceridemia. Other serious side effects indicated are irregular heartbeat arrhythmia angina signs of allergic reactions such as unexplained rash and swelling itching hives wheezing and trouble breathing. Other rare uncommon side effects indicated are worsening angina spinning sensation vertigo increase in liver enzymes weight loss low blood sugar depression high cholesterol decreased sex drive erectile dysfunction tinnitus and asthma.


	Drug Interaction
	There are certain medications when combined with Coreg [Carvedilol] can cause drug interactions such as Alpha blockers: Increase the risk of dangerously low blood pressure. Calcium channel blockers: Can cause slow heart rate bradycardia and dangerously drops the blood pressure. Certain Antidepressants: May metabolize Coreg [Carvedilol] differently than intended which can result in increased level of Carvedilol and further increase the risk of its side effects. Certain Antipsychotics: Even certain antipsychotics may metabolize Coreg [Carvedilol] differently than intended which may result in increased level of Carvedilol. Certain Arrhythmia medications: Slow heart rate bradycardia is indicated. Certain Diabetes medications: Can increase the risk of dangerously low blood sugar hypoglycemia. Cimetidine: Metabolize Coreg [Carvedilol] differently than intended which may result in increased level of Carvedilol. Clonidine: Can increase the risk of dangerously high blood pressure strokes and other serious problems. Cyclosporine: May increase the level of cyclosporine in the blood. Digoxin: Can cause a dangerously slow heart rate and also increase the level of digoxin in the blood. Diphenhydramine: May metabolize Coreg [Carvedilol] differently than intended which can result in increased level of Carvedilol. Hydroxychloroquine: Metabolize Coreg [Carvedilol] differently than it is intended which may cause increased level of Carvedilol. Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors MAOIs: May increase the risk of low blood pressure and slow heart rate. Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs NSAIDs: May decrease the blood pressure lowering effect of Coreg [Carvedilol]. Other Beta Blockers: May increase the risk of serious side effects. Reserpine: May increase the risk of serious adverse effects. Rifampin: May decrease the level of Coreg [Carvedilol] in the blood and makes it less effective. Ritonavir & Terbinafine: May metabolize Coreg [Carvedilol] differently than intended and increase the level of Carvedilol in the body.


	Uses
	Coreg [Carvedilol] is used to treat the high blood pressure by lowering down both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. It is used for mild to moderate congestive heart failure by decreasing blood pressure and makes the heart more efficient allowing more blood to be pumped from heart. It is also used for left ventricular dysfunction following myocardial infarction. Off-label usage of Coreg [Carvedilol] includes migraine prevention hyperthyroidism treatment and relief of alcohol withdrawal symptoms. It is also used to slow down the progression of aortic dilation in children with Marfan syndrome.
