Description
Cosopt [Timolol & Dorzolamide] is an eye drop. Cosopt [Timolol & Dorzolamide] is an Antiglaucoma agent. This ophthalmic eye drop is used to treat eye conditions like glaucoma and ocular hypertension. This eye drop contains two principal components dorzolamide and timolol. Dorzolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. The fluid channels inside the eye is cleared by Dorzolamide which permits the eye fluid to flow normally and prevents causing eye pressure. Timolol is a beta&adrenergic blocking agent which helps to lower the general eye pressure and treats the increased pressure in the eye.
The effectiveness of this medicine for eye complaints can be enhanced by changes in lifestyle like stress reduction programs exercise and changes in diet. Cosopt [Timolol & Dorzolamide] works by lowering the production of the liquid which fills the eyeball.
Increased pressure in the eyes is quite dangerous as it eventually damages the optic nerve and leads to blindness. Hence Cosopt [Timolol & Dorzolamide] is a very useful eye drop to avoid blindness and hence must be taken regularly.
To monitor or to investigate the side effects of this eye care medication laboratory and/or medical tests such as kidney function potassium blood level etc should be regularly performed. The patient on this eye medication must have his or her blood pressure regularly checked. Avoid sharing this eye medication with others. Cosopt [Timolol & Dorzolamide] eye drops are available only on prescription.
Overdose of the medication is to be avoided as it may cause serious consequences. In case there are any symptoms of overdose then the patient must immediately seek medical attention.
How to use
The dosage of Cosopt [Timolol & Dorzolamide] varies from patient to patient. The patient must always follow the instructions of the physician and/or follow the directions given on the prescription drug label. Generally the recommended dose of Cosopt [Timolol & Dorzolamide] eye drop is 1 drop in the affected eyes twice a day. The patient is advised to hold the lower eyelid open and instill the eye drop into the bottom corner of the affected eye.
In case the patient wears contact lenses then he or she must be advised to remove the lenses for minimum 15 minutes before instilling the Cosopt [Timolol & Dorzolamide] eye drop. In case any other eye medicine is to be administered to the patient then the patient must use it at least 10 minutes after using the Cosopt [Timolol & Dorzolamide] eye drops.
Side Effects
Common side Effects of Cosopt [Timolol & Dorzolamide] are bitter taste in the mouth burning stinging or discomfort immediately after using the medication dry eyes feeling as if there is something in the eye increased flow of tears sensitivity of the eyes to light blurred vision difficulty breathing dizziness or fainting spells inflamed or infected eyes or eyelids irregular heartbeat palpitations peeling or loosening of the skin slow heart rate less than 50 beats per minute skin rash etc.
Drug Interaction
There are a few drugs that may interact with Cosopt [Timolol & Dorzolamide] eye drops. Few of the drugs are mentioned below:

• Calcium channel blocking agents.
• Digitalis glycosides heart medicine.
• Carbonic anhydrase inhibitor.
• Quinidine.
• Reserpine.
