	Description
	Desyrel [trazodone hydrochloride] is a medicine which is used for the treatment of depression and also at times in insomnia. The content of this anti depressant is trazodone hydrochloride. This antidepressant is chemically unrelated to tricyclic tetracyclic or other known antidepressant agents. Desyrel [trazodone hydrochloride] is an antidepressant and hypnotic agent. It is a serotonin uptake inhibitor which is used as an antidepressive agent. It helps patients whose depression failed to respond to other medications. Desyrel [trazodone hydrochloride] is to be taken orally and is available in the form of tablets in varying strength. They are available in 50 mg 100 mg 150 mg and 300 mg tablets. Desyrel [trazodone hydrochloride] is not indicated in patients who are hypersensitive to Desyrel. It acts by helping to restore the balance of a certain natural chemical serotonin in the brain. Desyrel [trazodone hydrochloride] acts as a serotonin agonist at high doses and a serotonin antagonist at low doses. Alcohol or drowsiness causing medications eg tranquilizers pain medicine antihistamines should not be taken while consuming this medicine. Desyrel [trazodone hydrochloride] has been proved to be quite beneficial in patients with major depressive disorders and other subsets of depressive disorders. It is usually more useful in depressive disorders associated with insomnia and anxiety. This drug fails to aggravate the psychotic symptoms in patients with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorders. In case you have missed your dose of Desyrel [trazodone hydrochloride] and if it is almost time for your next dose then you can skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Doubling of doses should be avoided. In case of any overdose immediate medical attention should be sought.


	How to use
	Desyrel [trazodone hydrochloride] should be taken orally usually once or twice a day. It should be consumed after a meal or a snack or as directed by your doctor. The suggested usual dosage in milligrams of Desyrel [trazodone hydrochloride] is 150.


	Side Effects
	The Desyrel [trazodone hydrochloride] therapy produces certain side effects which include fainting spells fast or irregular heartbeat palpitations painful erections or other sexual dysfunction skin rash and trembling.


	Drug Interaction
	The drugs that interact with the Desyrel [trazodone hydrochloride] therapy are: • Herbal medicines that contain kava kava St Johns wort or valerian • Linezolid • Medicines indicated in high blood pressure • Medicines indicated in seizures • Other medicines for depression


	Uses
	This medication is useful in the treatment of depression.


	Storage
	It should be stored at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F 15-30 degrees C and should be stored away from light and moisture. Avoid storing it above 104 degrees F 40 degrees C. It should be dispensed in tight light- resistant containers.


	Precaution
	• Prior to taking Desyrel [trazodone hydrochloride] you should inform your doctor if you are allergic to it or to nefazodone or if you have any other allergies. • Avoid taking this medication in case you have certain medical conditions like history of priapism from taking trazodone recent heart attack personal or family history of bipolar disorder personal or family history of suicide attempts heart disease e.g. irregular heartbeat liver disease kidney disease blood pressure problems. • Be caution when using this drug in the elderly as they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug especially drowsiness and dizziness. • Avoid using this drug during pregnancy and consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
