	Description
	Diamicron MR [Gliclazide] is an oral hypoglycemic medication which is indicated for the control of blood glucose in persons with type 2 diabetes. This medicine is indicated when diet exercise and weight reduction have failed to control the blood glucose well enough on their own. The content of diamicron mr is gliclazide. Diamicron MR [Gliclazide] is a blood glucose lowering agent. It is observed that Gliclazide MR increases the quantity of insulin which is released by the pancreas and aids the body to utilize the insulin more efficiently. Diamicron MR [Gliclazide] should not be stopped without the consultation of your physician. The reason for non-insulin dependent diabetes NIDDM is reduced sensitivity of the body cells to insulin though the pancreas still has the ability to produce insulin. The islet cells of the pancreas are stimulated by Gliclazide to secrete insulin and also help in increasing their sensitivity to their normal stimulus glucose. Gliclazide also enhances the insulin-stimulated usage of glucose which permits Gliclazide to have long-term blood glucose-lowering ability. Diamicron MR [Gliclazide] is a modified release tablet which increases the blood concentrations of Gliclazide slowly. This produces constant insulin release and more moderated diabetic control. Each tablet of Diamicron MR [Gliclazide] contains 30 mg of gliclazide MR. The non medicinal content of Diamicron MR [Gliclazide] are calcium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate maltodextrin hypromellose magnesium stearate and anhydrous colloidal silica. Diamicron MR [Gliclazide] is not recommended in persons who are: • allergic to gliclazide MR • in a state of ketoacidosis high ketones in urine • pregnant • undergoing surgery or have suffered from recent severe trauma • suffering with reduced kidney or liver function • having serious infection.


	How to use
	The suggested dose of Diamicron MR [Gliclazide] ranges from 30 mg to 120 mg once a day. This medication should be taken at breakfast time. The tablet should be swallowed as a whole and should not be chewed or crushed.


	Side Effects
	Side effects experienced due to Diamicron MR [Gliclazide] are disturbances of the GUT like diarrhoea constipation indigestion nausea vomiting or abdominal pain temporary visual disturbances at start of treatment Low blood glucose level Skin reactions such as rash and itch Disturbances in the normal levels of blood cells in the blood Yellowing of the skin and eyes Disturbance in liver function Inflammation of the liver etc.


	Drug Interaction
	The action of Diamicron MR [Gliclazide] can be interfered by the below mentioned drugs – • Anti coagulants diuretics fibrates or nicotinic acids • One should be careful while using ACE inhibitors salbutamol salicylates diabetic medications oral contraceptives and any kind of anti inflammatory medication while using this medication.


	Uses
	Diamicron MR [Gliclazide] is indicated in the treatment of type II non-insulin dependent diabetes which can not be controlled by diet or exercise.


	Storage
	Diamicron MR [Gliclazide] should be stored far from children and should not be disposed in wastewater.


	Precaution
	Care should be taken when Diamicron MR [Gliclazide] is used in the following cases - • Elderly people. • Reduced liver or kidney function. • Underactive thyroid gland. • Insufficient production of hormones by the pituitary gland pituitary insufficiency. • Insufficient production of natural steroid hormones by the adrenal glands adrenal insufficiency. • Malnutrition. • Severe vascular disease eg severe coronary heart disease. Use of Diamicron MR [Gliclazide] should be avoided in the following cases - • Children. • Allergy to medicines from the sulphonamide group eg the antibiotic sulfamethoxazole. • Allergy to other sulphonylureas eg glibenclamide tolbutamide. • Type 1 insulin dependent diabetes. • Diabetic ketoacidosis. • Coma due to ketoacidosis in severe and inadequately treated diabetes diabetic coma or pre-coma. • Hereditary blood disorders called porphyrias. • Pregnancy. • Breastfeeding.
