	Description
	Dianette [Cyproterone acetate & ethinylestradiol] is useful for the treatment of hirsutism and acne and is not usually recommended for birth control. Each tablet of Dianette [Cyproterone acetate & ethinylestradiol] contains the active ingredients cyproterone acetate 2mg and ethinylestradiol 35micrograms. The contents of Dianette [Cyproterone acetate & ethinylestradiol] Cyproterone acetate is a progestogen derivative and the other ingredient ethinylestradiol is a synthetic version of the naturally-occurring female hormone oestrogen. Dianette [Cyproterone acetate & ethinylestradiol] is an ethinyl oestradiol oral contraceptive pill with the antiandrogen cyproterone acetate which is indicated in the treatment of hirsutism and acne. This type of medication is known as an anti-androgen. Androgens are responsible for initiating the growth of skin which includes the sebaceous glands which produces oil and the hair that grows from the skin. In case your body produces excessive androgens then it may result in excessive production of sebum by the sebaceous glands which can cause blockage of sebaceous glands causing infection inflammation and acne spots. The androgens may further lead to excessive growth of hair on the face and body this condition is known as hirsutism. The side effects of not taking this medicine can lead to hirsutism and acne. Dianette [Cyproterone acetate & ethinylestradiol] is useful in averting the actions of the androgens. It works by blocking the receptors in the body that the androgens normally act on. Dianette [Cyproterone acetate & ethinylestradiol] is not to be indicated in – Pregnancy or lactation Severe disturbances of liver function previous or existing liver tumours Personal or family history of confirmed idiopathic venous thromboembolism Current venous thrombotic or embolic processes existing or previous arterial thrombotic or embolic processes Sickle-cell anaemia Mammary or endometrial carcinoma or a history of these conditions Severe diabetes mellitus with vascular changes Disorders of lipid metabolism history of herpes gestationis Undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding Hypersensitivity to any of the components of Dianette etc.


	How to use
	Each pack of Dianette [Cyproterone acetate & ethinylestradiol] contains three strips of 21 tablets and each tablet of Dianette [Cyproterone acetate & ethinylestradiol] contains the same dose of hormones. One tablet is to be taken every day for 21 days and then a seven day break pill free period is to be kept.


	Side Effects
	The Dianette [Cyproterone acetate & ethinylestradiol] side effects include - altered body weight nausea feeling sick and vomiting breast tenderness headaches altered libido depression reduced or absent menstrual flow etc.


	Drug Interaction
	The action of Dianette [Cyproterone acetate & ethinylestradiol] is interfered with several medicines and some of them are: Hepatic enzyme inducers such as barbiturates primidone phenobarbitone phenytoin phenylbutazone rifampicin carbamazepine and griseofulvin antibiotics oral tetracyclines oral antidiabetics or insulin St Johns wort etc.


	Uses
	Dianette [Cyproterone acetate & ethinylestradiol] is used in severe female acne refractory to prolonged oral antibiotic therapy and moderately severe hirsutism. It may also be useful as an oral contraceptive.


	Storage
	Dianette [Cyproterone acetate & ethinylestradiol] should be stored properly and kept away from the reach of children. It should not be used after the expiry date.


	Precaution
	Great care has to be taken when Dianette [Cyproterone acetate & ethinylestradiol] is being used by • Pregnant women nursing mothers and also females that are above 35 years of age • Smokers obese heart patients diabetes mellitus patients and people suffering from kidney and liver problems should avoid this medicine. • Patients having past history of migraine and depression should also stay away from dianette.
