	Description
	Garamycin [Gentamicin] which is also available in the market in other names including Garamycin Ophthalmic Genoptic Genoptic S.O.P. Gentacidin Gentak Ocu-Mycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic. The Garamycin [Gentamicin] eye drops or ointment is prescribed in the treatment of external eye infections that appear on the surface. Some of the Garamycin [Gentamicin] eye preparations are also available in combination with prednisolone.


	How to use
	 Garamycin [Gentamicin] often also termed as Garamycin Ophthalmic Genoptic Genoptic S.O.P. Gentacidin Gentak Ocu-Mycin comes in the form of ointment or eye drop and is to be applied every 4-8 hours.  The Garamycin [Gentamicin] eye ointment by and large is applied two to four times a day.  The best thing to do is to follow the direction of the doctor and use Garamycin [Gentamicin] accordingly. Do not use more or less than what prescribed by the doctor. Follow the instructions provided below while using the ointment: While using the Gentamicin eye ointment 1. Start by washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water. 2. Next use a mirror to apply the ointment or ask someone else to hold it for you. 3. Do not touch the tip of the tube against your eye or anything else always keep the ointment clean. 4. Tilt your head to the fore slightly. 5. Now hold the tube between your thumb and index finger and place the tube close to your eye lid without touching it. 6. Brace the rest of the fingers of your hand against your cheek or nose. 7. Use the other index finger to pull the lower lid of your eye down forming a pocket. 8. Put a little bit of ointment into the pocket a 2” strip of ointment as a rule is enough. 9. Now close your eyes gently and keep them closed for 1-2 minutes so that the ointment gets absorbed.


	Side Effects
	Some of the common side effects caused by Garamycin [Gentamicin] or Garamycin Ophthalmic Genoptic Genoptic S.O.P. Gentacidin Gentak Ocu-Mycin are  Burning with stinging sensation or irritation in the eyes  Eye irritation  Burning or stinging in the eyes and the eye lids  Swelling of the eye


	Drug Interaction
	It is suggested not to use any other eye drops medicines or eye products of eye any kind while using Garamycin [Gentamicin] without having a consultation with the doctor. Also be careful about either starting or stopping any of the existing medicines or non-prescription stuff.


	Uses
	Garamycin [Gentamicin] both the eye drop and the ointment is used to treat and successfully kill the bacteria that are the source to certain kinds of eye infections.


	Storage
	 Always keep Garamycin [Gentamicin] eye drops and ointment out of the reach of children. Always make it a point to store Garamycin [Gentamicin] at a temperature between 2 and 30 degrees C 36 and 86 degrees F.  Also make it a point not to freeze Garamycin [Gentamicin]. You should always throw away any unused Garamycin [Gentamicin] eye drops or ointment after the expiration date.
