Hydroquinone is an agent which bleaches the skin. It is useful in the management of freckles, age spots, and other skin discolorations. The recommended dose of Hydroquinone should not be increased more than the recommended dose nor should it be consumed for longer periods. It is not to be consumed internally but is to be applied externally. If a dose is missed then it is to be taken immediately but if time for the next dose is approaching then the missed dose can be skipped and the regular routine can be continued. Doubling of doses is to be avoided. Overdosing should be avoided. Immediate medical attention should be taken in case of symptoms of overdosing.
Hydroquinone should not be shared with others. Avoid using this medicine on broken or irritated skin. When using this medicine for the first time, apply a test dose to check for any undesirable effects. Avoid the exposure to sun when using this medication. Use of sunscreen is advised and sun-protective clothing should be worn so that the treated area is covered.
How to use
Apply a small amount of Hydroquinone when using it for the first time, on the unbroken skin to test it for itching, redness or irritation. Gently massage the area after applying sufficient amount of the medicine over the affected area. It is to be applied two times a day.

Side effects experienced because of Hydroquinone are dryness of the skin, redness, irritation, rash, difficulty in breathing, hives, difficulty in swallowing, wheezing, itching, etc.
Drug Interaction
Keep your physician informed in case you consume products containing benzoyl peroxide or hydrogen peroxide; medicines containing phenol, resorcinol, or salicylic acid or Fluoroquinolones; phenothiazines; sulfonamides; tetracyclines or thiazide diuretics.
