	Description
	Imitrex [Sumatriptan] is a drug which is useful to treat migraine headaches. Migranous attacks which start with or without an aura both are relieved with the help of Imitrex [Sumatriptan]. Though this medicine fails to prevent migraine attacks. The ingredient of this migraine relieving drug is Sumatriptan. Imitrex [Sumatriptan] is a serotonin agonist which acts selectively at 5HT1 receptors. Imitrex [Sumatriptan] is a cerebral vasoconstrictor which is used to ameliorate the attacks of migraine headache as they occur. This anti migraine medicine belongs to a group of medicines also known as “triptans”. This medicine fails to prevent or lower the number of attacks one experiences. Imitrex [Sumatriptan] lowers the substances in the body which stimulates headache pain nausea sensitivity to light and sound and other symptoms of migraine. There is no question of missing a dose of Imitrex [Sumatriptan] as this medicine should not be taken regularly. No second dose should be taken if there is no improvement at all after the first dose without the advice of your physician. Imitrex [Sumatriptan] should not be taken more often then advised. Imitrex [Sumatriptan] is available in the form of tablets injections and nasal spray. Imitrex [Sumatriptan] is contraindicated in persons with uncontrolled hypertension or patients with history or signs of ischaemic cardia cerebro vascular or peripheral vascular syndromes. Imitrex [Sumatriptan] is not given to persons with uncontrolled hypertension as it can accelerate the blood pressure. In case of any over dose of the medicine immediate medical attention should be taken. The symptoms of overdose may include convulsions tremor paralysis inactivity erythema of the extremities abnormal respiration cyanosis ataxia salivation lachyrimation.


	How to use
	Imitrex [Sumatriptan] tablets are to be consumed orally with water. The directions given on the prescription label must be followed. This medication should not be used regularly. It should be taken when the first symptoms of a migraine attack appear. In case after taking one dose your migraine headache returns then the other dose of the medicine can be taken as directed. There should be a gap of at least 2 hours between two doses and not more than 100 mg as a single dose should be consumed. Avoid taking more than 200 mg in total in any 24 hour period.


	Side Effects
	The side effects of Imitrex [Sumatriptan] are pain or tightness in the chest or throat allergic reaction: sudden numbness or weakness sudden headache severe stomach pain and bloody diarrhea seizure nausea vomiting diarrhea muscle pain sneezing runny nose congestion cough etc.


	Drug Interaction
	• Ergot-containing drugs • MAO-A inhibitors


	Uses
	Imitrex [Sumatriptan] is used to ameliorate headaches and other symptoms of migraine attacks.


	Storage
	Imitrex [Sumatriptan] should be kept far from the reach of children and should be stored in a container. This drug fro migraine should be stored at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C 59 and 86 degrees F.


	Precaution
	• You should inform your doctor if you consume antidepressants like Celxa Zoloft etc before using Imitrex [Sumatriptan]. • Avoid Imitrex [Sumatriptan] if you are allergic to sumatriptan or any other ingredient. • Avoid taking Imitrex [Sumatriptan] in case you are pregnant or are trying to become pregnant.
