	Description
	Inderal [Propranolol] is beta- adrenergic blocking agents. Beta-blocking agents affect the heart and the circulation of blood flow. Propranolol is the active ingredient of this drug which interferes with the action of the sympathetic nervous system. Sympathetic nervous system is a part of the involuntary nervous system which excites the pace of the heart beat. The heart rate is lowered by Propranolol which blocks the action of these nerves and is further useful in the treatment of abnormally rapid heart rhythms. The heart muscle oxygen demand is reduced by Inderal [Propranolol] The availability of Inderal [Propranolol] is in the form of tablets and capsules. They are available in varying strengths. Tablets are available as 10 mg 20 mg 40 mg 60 mg and 80 mg while capsules are available in 60 mg 80 mg 120 mg and 160 mg. To acquire effective results of Inderal [Propranolol] it must be taken regularly. If it is consumed regularly then chest pain or an attack of migraine headache can be prevented. The complete results of this drug can be visible only after a week or two. Even if one feels well this medication should be continued. The condition of the patient may worsen if the drug is suddenly stopped without the advice of your physician hence it must not be stopped abruptly. In case of a missed dose of Inderal [Propranolol] the missed dose must be taken immediately but not within 4 hours of the next dose. If it is within four hours of the next dose then the missed dose can be skipped and the usual dosing schedule should be resumed. Doubling of doses should be avoided.


	How to use
	Inderal [Propranolol] should be consumed orally. To get effective results it should be consumed daily at the same time. The drug should be taken with or without meals at bedtime. The dose is based on the medical condition and response of the person to the therapy.


	Side Effects
	The side effects experienced while taking Inderal [Propranolol] are allergic reactions abdominal cramps diarrhea constipation drowsiness dizziness insomnia nausea vomiting depression high temperature impotence slow heart rate hypotension numbness tingling cold extremities sore throat and shortness of breath or wheezing.


	Drug Interaction
	Propranolol can aggravate breathing difficulties in patients with asthma chronic bronchitis or emphysema. In patients with existing slow heart rates bradycardias and heart blocks defects in the electrical conduction of the heart propranolol can cause dangerously slow heart rates and even shock. Propranolol reduces the force of heart muscle contraction and can aggravate symptoms of heart failure. Calcium channel blockers digoxin Lanoxin and haloperidol Haldol can cause lowering of blood pressure and heart rate to dangerous levels when administered together with propranolol. In patients with coronary artery disease abruptly stopping propranolol can suddenly worsen angina and occasionally precipitate heart attacks. If it is necessary to discontinue propranolol its dosage can be reduced gradually over several weeks. Propranolol can mask the early warning symptoms of low blood sugar hypoglycemia and should be used with caution in patients receiving treatment for diabetes. Safe use in children has not been established. It is not habit forming. Many medicines interact with propranolol. Alcohol and aluminum containing antacids reduce the absorption of propranolol. 	Uses
	Inderal [Propranolol] is useful in high blood pressure angina pectoris slowing and regulating certain types of abnormally rapid heart rates and in the treatment of certain types of tremors. It is also indicated in preventing migraine headaches strokes and heart attacks.


	Storage
	Should be stored at room temperature between 68-77 degrees F 20-25 degrees C in a tightly closed container and must be kept away from heat light and moisture.
