	Description
	Dilatrate – SR or Isochron or Isordil [isosorbide dinitrate] are vasodilator medications that dilates the blood vessels. Isordil [isosorbide dinitrate] is used in preventing or treating heart pain or angina. It acts by relaxing and widening the blood vessels enabling blood to flow more easily into the heart. The imbalance between the flow of blood and oxygen to the heart too is corrected by Isordil [isosorbide dinitrate]. The vascular smooth muscles are relaxed by Isordil [isosorbide dinitrate] by forming free radical nitric oxide. Isosorbide mononitrate is the active chemical of Isordil [isosorbide dinitrate]. To obtain effective results from this medication it must be used regularly. Avoid sudden cessation of Isordil [isosorbide dinitrate] without the consultation of your physician. The medicine should be reduced gradually. This medicine should always be kept handy in case of angina attacks. Isordil [isosorbide dinitrate] is available in the form of tablets sub lingual extended release and immediate release and capsules sustained release. This medicine is contraindicated in people suffering from anemia glaucoma acute myocardial infarction etc. It is also not to be given in people who are sensitive to the drug. The overdose symptoms of Isordil [isosorbide dinitrate] are headache irregular heartbeat dizziness nausea vomiting breathing difficulty cold or clammy skin fainting seizures etc. In case of overdose of the medicine immediate medical attention should be taken. Doubling of the dose is to be avoided to compensate the missed dose in case of missing a dose. While taking Isordil [isosorbide dinitrate] consumptions of alcohol is to be avoided as it may increase the side effects of Isordil [isosorbide dinitrate].


	How to use
	Isordil [isosorbide dinitrate] can be taken with or without food. The sublingual tablets should be dissolved under the tongue and avoid crushing or chewing it. The extended-release tablet or the capsule is to be swallowed as a whole and should not be crushed chewed broken or opened.


	Side Effects
	Headache un even heart rate flushing dizziness palpitations dry mouth allergic reactions breathing difficulty sweating pale skin blurred vision etc. are the side effects produced by Isordil [isosorbide dinitrate].


	Drug Interaction
	Few drug that interfere with the action of Isordil [isosorbide dinitrate] are dihydroergotamine diltiazem verapamil Sildenafil tadalafil vardenafil aspirin beta adrenergic blockers etc.


	Uses
	Use of Isordil [isosorbide dinitrate] is done in the treatment and prevention of angina which is caused by coronary artery disease. It is also used at times in the treatment of congestive heart failure.


	Storage
	Store Isordil [isosorbide dinitrate] at room temperature 15-30 C 59-86 F. It should be stored away from heat sunlight and moisture.


	Precaution
	• Care should be taken while prescribing Isordil [isosorbide dinitrate] in people suffering with head trauma volume depletion elderly patients pregnant or breastfeeding patients and in children. • Keep your physician informed regarding your medical history. • Avoid the intake of alcohol while taking this drug.
