	Description
	Keppra [Levetiracetam] is a drug used in the treatment of epilepsy. This anticonvulsant is also used in the treatment of neuropathic pain and psychiatric disorders like Tourette syndrome anxiety disorder and autism. It controls seizures in children who are more than 4 years of age and adults. Keppra [Levetiracetam] may also be prescribed for other purposes too by the doctor.


	How to use
	Keppra [Levetiracetam] should be administered on a patient only on the advice of a doctor. Self-medication is definitely not recommended. The doctor will decide the dosage required for an individual. Different people may be prescribed different dosages. Dosages may not be changed at patients’ will. Even if symptoms of the disease apparently goes away medication should not be stopped without consultation with the doctor as then the chances of relapse is high. Patients who are on medication of this drug should go for regular blood and liver tests. If a dose has been missed it should be taken only if time for the next dose is not near. Double dosing of Keppra [Levetiracetam] is strictly forbidden.


	Side Effects
	Patients who are on medication of Keppra [Levetiracetam] suffer from increased risk of getting suicidal thoughts depression and unusual changes in behaviour. Patients may have morbid thoughts and have negative thoughts about mortality. If such symptoms are noticed by the patient’s doctor it should be reviewed whether they are as a result of the illness or the medication. The patient’s family and other caregivers must be made aware of the symptoms of depression suicidal thoughts and tendencies of self-harm so that immediate action can be taken in case of their emergence. Other than this patients being treated with Keppra [Levetiracetam] may experience drowsiness dizziness headache pain in the neck spinning sensation runny nose and irritability.


	Drug Interaction
	Keppra [Levetiracetam] may cause 4 major 385 moderate and 5 minor drug interactions. Care should be taken by the doctor to do a thorough check of whatever medicines the patients is having before starting treatment with Keppra [Levetiracetam]. The 4 drugs which may cause serious interactions are propoxyphene acetaminophen sodium oxybate and aspirin.


	Uses
	Keppra [Levetiracetam] is a medication used to treat partial onset seizures of epilepsy patients in children who are more than four years of age and adults. In children who are more than six years of age and adults Keppra [Levetiracetam] is used to treat tonic-clonic seizures. In children who are more than twelve years of age and adults Keppra [Levetiracetam] is used to treat myoclonic seizures. Doctors have been known to prescribe Keppra [Levetiracetam] for other purposes than the ones stated here.


	Storage
	Keppra [Levetiracetam] should be stored in a cool and dry place. Keep out of reach of children and pets.


	Precaution
	Patients who are allergic to Levetiracetam should not be prescribed this medication. Also the doctor should be aware of all the medications a patient is allergic to before prescribing. Family members of the patient should be aware of the fact that suicidal thoughts and behaviors are common side effects of taking Keppra [Levetiracetam].
