	Description
	Lamisil [Terbinafine hydrochloride] is a synthetic antifungal allylamine medication that is used in the treatment of skin infections like Athlete’s foot Jock’s itch and ring worm. It is also used in the treatment of onychomycosis which is an infection that may occur in the fingernail or the toenail.


	How to use
	Lamisil [Terbinafine hydrochloride] is available as a topical cream and as oral medication. In case of superficial skin infections the topical cream is prescribed. It should be applied directly on the infection for a period of at least six weeks. The oral medication of Lamisil [Terbinafine hydrochloride] should be used in case the infection is located in the cuticle deep under the nail where the topical cream may not be very effective. Patients are usually prescribed one tablet a day for a period of six weeks. Medication should not be stopped even if the apparent symptoms of infection goes away. Double doses too close to each other should not be administered to make up for a missed dose. In case of overdoes the doctor who is treating the patient should be consulted immediately. Symptoms of an overdose of Lamisil [Terbinafine hydrochloride] are dizziness nausea skin rashes stomach pain vomiting and passing of too much urine.


	Side Effects
	It has been reported that patients who have been administered Lamisil [Terbinafine hydrochloride] have developed liver damage which has lead to death or liver transplant though in most cases it has been found that the patient concerned already was suffering from serious conditions and the medication was not to be blamed. Signs and symptoms of liver damage like nausea appetite loss dark urine jaundice itching stomach pain and dark stools should be treated as a medical emergency.


	Drug Interaction
	Lamisil [Terbinafine hydrochloride] may cause certain drug interactions if administered simultaneously with other medications. Known medications which should be avoided are: 1 rifampin Rimactane Rifadin 2 fluconazole Diflucan 3 warfarin Coumadin 4 SSRI antidepressant like fluvoxamine Luvox fluoxetine Prozac paroxetine Paxil 5 MAO inhibitors like isocarboxazid Marplan rasagiline Azilect tranylcypromine Parnate phenelzine Nardil selegiline Eldepryl 6 Cimetidine Tagamet HB Tagamet 7 heart rhythm medication like flecainide Tambocor and propafenone Rythmol 8 tricyclic antidepressant like amitriptyline Etrafon Elavil 9 beta-blockers like atenolol Tenoretic Tenormin bisoprolol Ziac Zebeta metoprolol Toprol Lopressor propranolol InnoPran Inderal timolol Blocadren bisoprolol Ziac Zebeta labetalol Trandate Normodyne and nadolol Corgard.

	Lamisil [Terbinafine hydrochloride] is an antifungal medication used in the treatment of various skin infections that may occur in the finger and toe nails. Lamisil [Terbinafine hydrochloride] may be prescribed by doctor for other purposes also.


	Other Uses


	Storage
	Lamisil [Terbinafine hydrochloride] should be stored in a cool and dry place. The temperature of the area in which it has been stored should not be more than 30 degrees C.


	Precaution
	Caution should be exercised if Lamisil [Terbinafine hydrochloride] is prescribed on patients who are suffering from lupus psoriasis kidney disease or liver disease. This medication can be administered on pregnant women without any fear of side effects. This medication is not recommended for mothers who are breastfeeding their baby as Terbinafine hydrochloride may pass onto the baby through breast milk.
