	Description
	Prednisolone is a glucocorticoid which can lowers your resistance to infections and can make it difficult to treat. Glucocorticoids are adrenocortical steroids they are both naturally occurring and synthetic. Glucocorticoids are absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The content of Prednisolone which is a white odorless crystalline powder. Prednisolone is mildly soluble in water in alcohol in chloroform in dioxane and in methanol. Prednisolone is used for suppressing the immune system and inflammation. Predinisolone can mask few of the signs of an infection thus making it tough for the physician to diagnose the actual disorder. Predinisolone is not indicated in persons suffering with systemic fungal infections and in those persons who are hypersensitive to the contents of Predinisolone. Prolonged use of high doses of Predinisolone should be avoided as long-term high doses of Predinisolone may produce Cushings syndrome. In case of overdose of this medication immediate medical attention should be sought. In case you are taking one dose of Predinisolone daily and if you miss your dose then you must take the missed dose as soon as you remember and in case you remember the missed dose only the next day when it is time for your next scheduled dose then you can skip the dose that you missed. In case the patient has been taking Predinisolone for a long period of time then probably an increased dose of the medication shall be required by the patient before during and after any stressful situation. There shall always be a temporary increase of dose when any stress is anticipated. It is recommended that patients who are on Predinisolone therapy for prolonged periods should always wear or carry identification.


	How to use
	Prednisolone must be taken as prescribed by the physician. This medication should always be taken along with food so as to prevent stomach upset. The amount of dose is dependent on the condition that has to be treated and the response of the patient to the drug. Generally the starting doses can vary from 5 milligrams to 60 milligrams a day. On response the dose can be lowered. In case treatment with Prednisolone is required for longer periods then alternate day therapy may be prescribed. The dose of this medication has to be gradually reduced over several days or weeks.


	Side Effects
	There are a few side effects experienced by the patients on Prednisolone . Some of the side effects are congestive heart failure Hypertension Muscle weakness Steroid myopathy Pathologic fracture of long bones Peptic ulcer with possible perforation and hemorrhage Pancreatitis Abdominal distention etc.


	Drug Interaction
	• Phenobarbital phenytoin and rifampin may increase the clearance of corticosteroids and may require increased dose of corticosteroid. • Drugs such as troleandomycin and ketoconazole may prevent the metabolism of corticosteroids and thus decrease their clearance. • Aspirin. • Oral anticoagulants.

	Storage
	Prednisolone should be stored at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F 15-30 degrees C. It should also be stored far from light and moisture. All medicines should be kept away from children and pets.


	Precaution
	• Avoid taking Prednisolone if you ever had an allergic reaction to it. • Avoid been treated with Deltasone [Prednisone] in case you have had a body-wide fungus infection such as candidiasis or cryptococcosis
