Prevacid [Lansoprazole] is used in the treatment and prevention of intestinal and stomach ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and erosive esophagitis. It works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach.
How to use
Prevacid [Lansoprazole] is generally recommended to be administered once a day. It should be taken before a meal and at the same time each day. The dosage and the time for which the treatment has to be continued will depend on the patient’s medical condition and his response to therapy.
The tablet should not be crushed, chewed or broken. Instead it should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. In case a patient cannot swallow it whole, the capsule should be taken apart and the content should be sprinkled on apple sauce, yogurt or cottage cheese or mixed with a small amount of juice and taken immediately.
Medication should not be stopped even if the apparent symptoms of the condition go away. Rather, the whole course should be completed to avoid a relapse.

Side Effects
Prevacid [Lansoprazole] may cause common but not serious side effects in some patients such as constipation and diarrhea. In case they persist, a doctor should be consulted.
A serious side effect of this medication is stomach pain.
A very serious side effect of Prevacid [Lansoprazole], though unlikely, is Vitamin B12 deficiency, symptoms of which are unusual weakness, numbness or tingling sensation in the feet and hands and sore tongue. In case such symptoms do occur, immediate medical attention should be given to the patient.
Prevacid [Lansoprazole] may cause allergic reactions in a few patients which need to be treated as medical emergency. Symptoms of an allergic reaction are rash, hives, itching, shortness of breath, dizziness and swelling in the face, tongue, throat and eyes.

Storage
Prevacid [Lansoprazole] should be stored at room temperature away from excess heat, direct sunlight and moisture. It should be kept out of reach of children and pets.
