Rifadin is composed of an active ingredient Rifampin and other inactive ingredients. Rifampin belongs to a class of medicine known as Rifamycin antibiotic. Rifadin [Rifampin] is available in a form of capsules, syrup and intravenous infusion. Capsules are available in two strengths, 150 mg and 300mg. Rifadin [Rifampin] is most frequently used for the treatment of tuberculosis (TB). It is also used for the treatment of infections caused by certain other bacteria. Rifadin [Rifampin] works by killing the bacteria that cause the infection. There is a bacterial enzyme known as RNA-polymerase. These bacteria use RNA-polymerase to make essential proteins and copy their own genetic information i.e. DNA and thereby multiplies in numbers. Without this RNA-polymerase bacterial enzyme they cannot reproduce and will die. Rifadin [Rifampin] is used along with other anti-tuberculosis drugs to resist the growth of bacteria, to kill the resistance power of the bacteria and make the drugs more effective for the purpose.
