Your doctor has ordered ceftriaxone, an antibiotic, to help treat your infection. The drug will be either injected into a large muscle (such as your buttock or hip) or added to an intravenous fluid that will drip through a needle or catheter placed in your vein for 30 minutes, one or two times a day.

How to use
For many common bacterial infections, the recommended dosage for adults is Rocephin [Ceftriaxone] 250mg to 2 grams once only or 1 to 2 times daily for 7 to 14 days. The recommended dosage for children varies depending on their body weight. The dosage is 50mg to 100mg Rocephin [Ceftriaxone] per kilogram of body weight per day, once only or 1 to 2 times daily for 7 to 14 days.
For prevention of infections in surgery, Rocephin [Ceftriaxone] dosage is given 30 minutes to 2 hours prior to surgery. The dosage recommended is 1 gram.
Rocephin [Ceftriaxone] should be administered at the same time each day to maintain the level of Ceftriaxone in the body system.
Entire Rocephin [Ceftriaxone] course should be completed to ensure that the infection is completely treated.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Rocephin [Ceftriaxone] as indicated are pain, warmth, minor swelling at the injection site, unexplained rash, diarrhea and increase of liver enzymes.
Serious side effects indicated are hives, severe or watery diarrhea, blood in stools, throat or mouth sores, wheezing, difficulty in breathing, abnormal bleeding or bruising, swelling of throat and peeling of skin.
Rare side effects indicated are nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, headache, yeast infections, vaginitis, dizziness, anemia, thrombocytopenia, sweating, blood in urine and serious intestinal infections.
Drug Interaction
Concomitant use of Rocephin [Ceftriaxone] and calcium or calcium containing products may cause dangerous deposits in lungs and kidneys. This is more likely to occur with newborns. So, this medication should not be given to newborn who must receive calcium containing IV product.
Concomitant use of Rocephin [Ceftriaxone] and warfarin may metabolize the drugs differently than intended.
Concomitant use of Rocephin [Ceftriaxone] and probenecid or sulfinpyrazone may metabolize the drugs differently than intended and increase the amount of ceftriaxone in the body system.
Over Dose
In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911
