Skelaxin is composed of an active ingredient named Metaxalone and other inactive ingredients. Skelaxin [Metaxalone] is a muscle relaxant. It is used to treat muscle spasms due to injuries or other musculoskeletal problems. Skelaxin [Metaxalone] is available in a form of tablets with the strength of 800mg of metaxalone. How it gives relief to muscle spasms is not exactly known but it is known to work mostly on central nervous system and not directly on muscles. It has a sedative property and does not directly relax tense skeletal muscles. It can be used in combination of rest, physical therapy or any other treatment for relieving discomforts associated with acute painful musculoskeletal conditions.
How to use
The recommended Skelaxin [Metaxalone] dosage for adults and children of 12 years of age and above is one 800mg tablet three to four times a day, as directed by the physician.
It can be taken with or without food. Taking with food can increase the level of medication in blood and may increase the risk of Skelaxin [Metaxalone] side effects.
Side Effects
Common side effects indicated using Skelaxin [Metaxalone] medications are; headache, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, nervousness, irritability and stomach upset.

Patient taking this medication should not take alcohol as this may increase the risk of side effects.
Patients suffering from liver disease or kidney disorder should avoid taking this medication.
Patients having anemia or have history of anemia especially caused by medications are recommended not to administer this medication.
