Symbicort Rotacaps (budosenide+ formoterol) is known to cause drug interactions when administered in combination with certain other medications. Some medications which should rather not be prescribed along with this inhaler are as follows:
• Beta blockers such as propranolol, timolol or atenolol
• Oral corticosteroids, for e.g. prednisolone
• Xanthine derivates, for e.g. theophylline.
• Other beta-2 medications, for e.g. Salmeterol or salbutamol
• Diuretics, for e.g. furosemide or bendroflumethiazide
• Digoxin
• Atomoxetine
• Certain medications for uneven heartbeats (antiarrhythmics, eg quinidine, procainamide, disopyramide)
• Certain antipsychotics, for e.g. chlorpromazine, sertindole, thioridazine, haloperidol
• Macrolide antibiotics for e.g. erythromycin or clarithromycin
• Antihistamines, for e.g. astemizole, mizolastine or terfenadine
• Certain antidepressants, for e.g. imipramine, maprotiline or amitriptyline
• Certain antimalarials, for e.g. chloroquine, quinine, halofantrine or artemether
• Moxifloxacin
Following are medications which should be strictly avoided while a patient is on therapy.
• Antifungal medications, for e.g. itraconazole and Ketoconazole
• Protease inhibitors, for e.g. ritonavir
• Furazolidone
• Procarbazine
• Monoamine oxidase inhibitor antidepressants (MAOIs), for e.g. phenelzine
