Trileptal [Oxcarbazepine] may cause side effects in some patients. Common side effects which are not very serious and usually go away by themselves are as follows: dizziness, fatigue, vomiting, trouble in sleeping, dry mouth, drowsiness, nausea, headache, acne and constipation. In case these symptoms persist, the doctor should be consulted.
Trileptal [Oxcarbazepine] may cause serious side effects such as double vision, involuntary eye movements, difficulty in concentrating, trouble in walking, diminishing sense of touch, change in vision, difficulty in speech, loss of coordination, uncontrolled muscle movements and tremors. In case any of these symptoms do occur, the doctor should be notified immediately.
Very serious but rare side effects of the drug are as follows: chest pain, easy bruising and bleeding, mood changes, abdominal pain, dark urine, yellow eyes and skin, sore throat, bloody stools and increase in urination.
This drug is also known to cause behavioral changes in rare cases such as anxiety, suicidal thoughts and hostility.
In case of an allergic reaction, emergency medical help should be called for as the condition may be life-threatening.
