	Description
	Ultracet [Tramadol and Acetaminophen] is an oral pain reliever drug. It consists of 2 active ingredients Tramadol and Acetaminophen and other inactive ingredients. Each tablet of Ultracet [Tramadol and Acetaminophen] consists of analgesics Tramadol 37.5mg and Acetaminophen 325mg. Tramadol is a non-narcotic synthetic agent used for treating moderate to severe pain. Acetaminophen is a non-opiate non-salicylate analgesic or pain reliever as well as antipyretic or fever reducer. The combination of acetaminophen and tramadol is used to treat moderate to severe pain such as post-dental or post-surgical operational pain. Ultracet is recommended for a short period of time i.e. 5 days or less.


	How to use
	Ultracet [Tramadol and Acetaminophen] when used for short term period management of acute pain 5 days or less the recommended dosage is 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours as needed for pain relief. The maximum dosage of Ultracet [Tramadol and Acetaminophen] recommended is 8 tablets a day. Ultracet can be administered with or without food. Ultracet can be more effective if taken in empty stomach. This medication should be taken with a full glass of water. Ultracet should be administered as prescribed by the physician. Excess intake of this medication or more frequent consumption could be habit forming. If Ultracet is used for an extended period of time then the medication may not work properly and effectively and may need a different dosage. For the treatment of pain Ultracet works best if it is used during the initial signs of pain occurrence. If waited for the pain to worsen the medication may not work as well. Ultracet should not be started or stopped without the doctor’s approval. Medication should not be stopped suddenly. It should be stopped gradually.


	Side Effects
	Side effects that have been reported on gastro-intestinal system from the consumption of Ultracet for 5 days with an average of 6 tablets per day are dry mouth nausea constipation and diarrhea. Side effects reported on psychiatric disorders are insomnia anorexia and somnolence. Adverse effects on central and peripheral nervous system skin and appendages are dizziness pruritus and increase sweating. There could be prostatic disorder in males. Apart from these other adverse effects reported on the usage of Ultracet are fatigue asthenia hot flushes vomiting diarrhea chest pain hypertension hypotension vertigo convulsions migraine ringing ears palpitation excessive increase in heart beat rate or tachycardia weight decrease impotency amnesia abnormal liver function anemia urinary retention and abnormal vision.


	Drug Interaction
	Ultracet [Tramadol and Acetaminophen] is not recommended to be taken with Carbamazepine concurrently as it may significantly reduce analgesic effect of tramadol. Concurrent use Ultracet and Quinidine is not desirable as quinidine resists tramadol to metabolise to M1 by inhibiting isoenzyme CYP2D6 results in increased concentrations of tramadol and reduced concentrations of M1. When Ultracet is co-administered with drugs which are inhibitors of CYP2D6 like fluoxetine and paroxetine could result in inhibition of metabolism of tramadol. Concomitant use of tramadol and SSRI antidepressants or tricyclic antidepressants or MAO inhibitors or neuroleptics or any other opioids could increase seizure risk in patients. When Ultracet and blood thinner like warfarin are administered concurrently periodic evaluation of prothrombin time or blood clotting time should be performed.


	Uses
	Ultracet [Tramadol and Acetaminophen] is used to treat moderate to severe pain. It is used for post-dental and post-surgical operational pain relief. It is used for a short term for 5 days or less.


	Storage
	Ultracet [Tramadol and Acetaminophen] should be stored at a room temperature between 15o-30oC 59o-86oF away from direct sunlight heat and moisture. Keep away from children.
