	Description
	Uroxatral [Alfuzosin hydrochloride] is a prescription drug used in the treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). It belongs to the class of drugs called alpha blockers and is prescribed for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of BPH. It works by relaxing the muscles of the prostrate and the neck of the bladder. This helps it easier to pass urine.


	How to use
	Uroxatral [Alfuzosin hydrochloride] is a prescription drug and should be administered as per the doctor’s instructions. Generally a dosage of one tablet daily is prescribed. The tablet should be taken after the same meal everyday for maximum efficacy. The medication should always be had just after eating food and never on an empty stomach. This medication should be swallowed whole with water and never be crushed, chewed or broken. In case a dose is missed, it should be administered as soon as remembered though having two doses together is strictly forbidden.


	Side Effects
	Uroxatral [Alfuzosin hydrochloride] may cause certain side effects such as dizziness, fatigue, upper respiratory tract infection and headache. If the symptoms persist, the doctor should be consulted as soon as possible.


	Drug Interaction
	Uroxatral [Alfuzosin hydrochloride] may cause serious drug interactions when it is administered along with other medications. The following medications should be strictly followed as they may cause very serious drug interactions: • Drugs which affect the liver enzymes that remove alfuzosin from the body (for instance, macrolide antibiotics (erythromycin and clarithromycin); antifungals (ketoconazole and itraconazole); cimetidine; St John's wort; rifamycins (rifampin); ritonavir; certain anti-seizure medications (carbamazepine). Following are medications the doctor should be aware the patient is using before prescribing Uroxatral [Alfuzosin hydrochloride]: • Medications that lower blood pressure (atenolol, diltiazem). • drugs for sexual function problems (sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil) • sildenafil • dofetilide, • procainamide • quinidine • erythromycin • pimozide • amiodarone • sotalol


	Uses
	Uroxatral [Alfuzosin hydrochloride] is used to treat Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), a condition which leads to an enlarged prostrate. It relieves various symptoms of the disease such as weak flow of urine, difficulty and pain while urinating and the need to urinate frequently and urgently. This drug may be prescribed by doctors for other purposes as well.


	Storage
	Uroxatral [Alfuzosin hydrochloride] should be stored in a cool and dry area at room temperature. It should be kept out of reach of children and pets.


	Precaution
	Uroxatral [Alfuzosin hydrochloride] is not to be prescribed to patients who suffer from a liver disease. The doctor should be aware whether the patient has a kidney disease. Also, the doctor should be aware whether the patient has a family history of a rare medical condition called congenital prolongation of the QT interval before prescribing this drug.
