	Description
	Vaniqa (Eflornithine hydrochloride) is used in reducing unwanted facial hair in women. This medication does not completely cure the condition or permanently remove the unwanted hair, rather it helps in better management of the condition and causes improvement in appearance. This medication may also be used for other purposes as well.


	How to use
	Hands should be washed thoroughly before and after using Vaniqa (Eflornithine hydrochloride). Doctor’s advice regarding the dosage should be strictly followed. Generally, application two times a day is routine. A gap of at least 8 hours should be kept between two applications. All facial hair is to be removed first using the usual hair removing technique the patient uses. After about 5 minutes, Vaniqa (Eflornithine hydrochloride) should be applied. A thin layer of the cream should be applied and rubbed in thoroughly. It is okay to use sunscreen or cosmetics after applying the medicated cream though a few minutes should be given to allow absorption. The affected area should be kept unwashed for at least a period of 4 hours after applying the cream. Care should be taken to see that the cream does not get into the eyes. If it does, the eyes should be splashed with water. Vaniqa (Eflornithine hydrochloride) is meant only for external use. This cream will not permanently cure the problem of unwanted facial hair.


	Side Effects
	Vaniqa (Eflornithine hydrochloride) may cause side effects in some people. Redness, burning, tingling and stinging of the skin are common side effects which may occur. In case they do not go away on their own, the doctor should be consulted. Serious but unlikely side effects this medication may cause are hair bumps or acne. Allergic reactions to this medication are extremely rare but in case they do occur, emergency medical help should be phoned in immediately.


	Drug Interaction
	Vaniqa (Eflornithine hydrochloride) may cause drug interactions when administered simultaneously with certain other medications. Special care should be taken in case of other topical preparations. It is imperative that the doctor is aware of all the prescription or over – the – counter medications the patient is using before prescribing.

	Vaniqa (Eflornithine hydrochloride) is used in reducing the amount of unwanted facial hair in women. It works by slowing down the growth of hair on the face and under the chin some women have. 	Precaution
	Pregnant women or those planning to become pregnant should speak to their doctor before starting to administer Vaniqa (Eflornithine hydrochloride). The same rule goes for mothers who are breastfeeding their baby. This medication should be continued to be used even if results are slow in appearing. In some women, improvements are noticed within 4-8 weeks of starting treatment while in some it may take longer.
