Voltaren is constituted of Diclofenac sodium as an active ingredient and other inactive ingredients. How to use
The recommended dosage of Voltaren [Diclofenac sodium] for the symptoms of osteoarthritis is 50mg, 2 to 3 times daily or 75mg, twice a day; i.e. 100 to 150mg daily in total.
The recommended dosage of Voltaren [Diclofenac sodium] for the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis is 50mg, 3 to 4 times daily or 75mg, twice a day; i.e. 150 to 200mg daily in total.
The recommended dosage of Voltaren [Diclofenac sodium] for the relief of ankylosing spondylitis is 25mg, 4 times daily. If needed another dose of 25mg may be used at the bedtime i.e. 100 to 125mg daily in total.
It may take several weeks for full effects of Voltaren [Diclofenac sodium] to be felt.
It is usually recommended to take Voltaren [Diclofenac sodium] tablets with food to avoid stomach upset. However food may cause this medication to work slowly.
Side Effects
Common side effects indicated using Voltaren [Diclofenac sodium] medication are stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion (dyspepsia), gas, unexplained bleeding, peptic ulcer, nausea, vomiting, anemia, dizziness, swelling, increase in liver enzymes, headache, itching, unexplained rash and tinnitus.
Serious side effects indicated are chest pain, weakness on any part of the body, shortness of breath, slurred speech, severe allergic reactions like swelling of face or body, blisters, unexplained skin rash, wheezing and difficulty breathing; stomach or intestinal problems including ulcers, bleeding and perforation; liver damage, kidney problem including kidney failure, hypertension and signs of heart failure.

Drug Interaction
If ACE Inhibitors are taken concurrently with Voltaren [Diclofenac sodium] tablets then Voltaren might reduce the effectiveness of ACE inhibitors for lowering blood pressure and may also increase the risk of kidney damage.
If Anticoagulants or anti-platelets medication are taken concomitantly with Voltaren [Diclofenac sodium], there might be an increased risk of bleeding, even dangerous internal bleeding.
If Voltaren [Diclofenac sodium] taken concurrently with diuretics, the effectiveness of diuretics may be decreased and may also increase the risk of kidney damage.
If Cyclosporine is taken concurrently with Voltaren [Diclofenac sodium] medication, the risk of kidney damage may increase.
Taking Lithium concurrently with Voltaren [Diclofenac sodium], may increase the level of lithium in blood and cause lithium toxicity.
If Methotrexate is taken concurrently with Voltaren [Diclofenac sodium] medication, the level of methotrexate may increase and that may increase the risk of its side effects.
Uses
Voltaren [Diclofenac sodium] is used for the relief of the conditions like pain, swelling, inflammation and stiffness associated with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis.
Storage
Voltaren [Diclofenac sodium] tablets should not be stored at a temperature above 30oC (86oF). Protect from heat and moisture.
Precaution
Pregnant women and women planning to be pregnant should consult the physician.
Lactating mothers should be cautious.
Individual who drink alcohol frequently or smoke regularly or gone through heart surgery recently should consult the physician before administering the medicine.
