Zanaflex [Tizanidine hydrochloride] is a short-action drug that is used in managing spasticity. This medication is not meant for long-term relief of the disease, rather it is prescribed for those times when relief from spasticity is important.
How to use
Zanaflex [Tizanidine hydrochloride] is a prescription drug that should be administered exactly as per the doctor’s instructions. One dose of 8 mg of the drug reduces the muscle tone of spastic patients for several hours. The effect is noticed about 1-2 hours after administration of the medication and goes away in 3-6 hours. Effects depend on the dose. Although a dosage of less than 8 mg has not been known to be effective in the studies conducted in controlled clinical trials, therapy is usually started with 4 mg because of the drug’s tendency to cause side effects in patients. The dosage is gradually increased to reach a level where the optimum effect is possible. If the doctor prescribes, the dose can be repeated every 6-8 hours. The maximum dosage for a day should never exceed 36 mg.
