Zantac [Ranitidine hydrochloride] may cause common side effects such as headache, dizziness, diarrhea or constipation in some patients. They are not serious but in case they persist, the doctor should be notified.
Some patients may get serious but unlikely side effects such as agitation, depression, confusion, hallucinations or blurred vision. In such cases, the doctor should be consulted immediately.
This medication may cause rare but very serious side effects such as enlarged breasts, easy bruising or bleeding, irregular heartbeat, severe stomach pain, dark urine, severe tiredness, fever, cough, persistent sore throat or yellowing of the skin and eyes. All these symptoms need immediate medical attention.
Allergic reactions are very rare but in case symptoms such as rash, hives, itching, swelling of the face, throat, lips and tongue, chest pain or trouble in breathing occur, emergency help should be called for.
